Matthias Weckmann is probably one of the most important German composers of the 17th century and a remarkable disciple of Heinrich Schütz.

The program of this recording brings together several aspects of his art: works for organ and harpsichord as well as chamber music.

The organ music is directly inspired by the melodies of Protestant music while the pieces for harpsichord reveal French influences and the music of the famous Froberger, a great friend of Matthias Weckmann.

These Sonatas a 3 and a 4 are among the masterpieces of German instrumental music before the work of Johann Sebastian Bach.
